3 Reasons Why You Should Consider A First Look

Happy #WeddingWednesday Blue Rose Beauties! We have had the pleasure of capturing weddings for over two decades now and like a fine wine they just keep getting better with time! Weddings have been perfected in ways that maximize intimacy and simplify the celebration timeline and doing a First Look is a magnificent & modern example of the process evolving into perfection.

A First Look is a pre-arranged moment before the ceremony where the couple get to see each other for the first time in a private place, away from family and friends. This creates the perfect environment for us as photographers to capture that moment- just for them. They are becoming immensely popular and we want to share our top 3 reasons why you might want to consider it for your celebration!

1. Savor Every Second

We want you to live in the moment and be present with your guests. A First Look gives you the flexibility to get a lot of your portraits out of the way so you can get back to celebrating with those that you love most while also giving you more meaningful alone time as a couple on your wedding day. It is a win- win situation! You simply cannot beat the joy and excitement of that initial first glance, shared between just the two of you.

2. Cool, Calm & Collected

Emotions expressed, without stress or worry is exactly what a First Look can be! Your wedding is one of the biggest and most significant days of your life and we have found that a lot of couples can experience some nerves just before the ceremony. Even those that thought they would be stoic suddenly get a little weak in the knees. However, time and time again we see the stress melt away just after the couple sees each other for the first time at their First Look. It is almost as if a weight is lifted off their shoulders and the rest of the wedding day activities become so much more enjoyable and carefree.

3. More Stunning Photos

As photographers we are bias, but this is our favorite reason for considering a First Look. We want to have every opportunity to capture exquisite photos for you and doing a First Look gives us significantly more time to do just that. Carving out this time also allows us to photograph you while your hair and makeup are at peak perfection and the tux is freshly pressed and looking sharp. Logistically speaking, doing a First Look will also give us more time for family and wedding party portraits after the ceremony capitalizing on that beautiful golden hour sun for any last outdoor candid photos. You will never regret taking extra care to ensure each moment is captured perfectly with no rushing involved.

We realize doing a First Look is not for everyone, but we hope you have a better understanding of the positive outcomes of spending a beautiful moment together with no pressure and no one watching. Very relaxed and genuine emotion will inspire photos that capture a historic moment in time, in an intentional and ultra-intimate fashion!

Sylvia and RonLarry, Hacienda Dona Andrea De Santa Fe

Puppies, pops of jewel tones and vitality, and perfectly curated southwestern details – oh my! It’s our favorite day of the week Blue Rose babes (#WeddingWednesday of course), and this time around we’re so full of love, our hearts might actually explode. If you’re a fan of New Mexico’s rich, layered history, or sweeping proclamations of devotion, or furry friends in weddings – your heart might just burst as well. So, if you’re ready to get lost in a world of love, grab a cup of calming tea and join us while we revisit Sylvia and RonLarry’s celebration!

Held by the esteemed Hacienda Doña Andrea, Sylvia and RonLarry began the newest chapter of their life together surrounded by traditional architecture and ancient details. Complimented by vibrant reds in the gowns, floral arrangements, and decor, the day rounded out to be completely unforgettable. From tiny potted cacti, to the bridesmaids and flower girl’s gowns, each little corner was bursting with personality and life — perfect for a couple whose love is just as passionate and alive!

The combination of old world and new love carries on — Sylvia’s stunning and modern lace gown was donned with coordinated with cowboy boots. RonLarry’s sleek blue attire mirrored the traditionally exquisite New Mexican sky and popped against their outdoor backdrop with the addition of a deep red bowtie. Framed by a magnificently cloudless and sunny day, the couple said their I-do’s on Hacienda Doña Andrea’s grand patio in the company of their family, friends, loved ones, and favorite furry companion!

We love New Mexico, we love weddings, and we love love most of all. Sylvia and RonLarry’s celebration brought all of our very favorites things together, and was an unparalleled honor to bear witness to. Thank you for allowing the #BlueRose team capture each perfect detail!

Kelly and Lisa, Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm

Set amongst 25 acres of lavender fields, enormous cottonwood trees and lush formal gardens, the existence of Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm basically radiates with historical significance. Su Casa Magazine said, “one could spend a lifetime at Los Poblanos and never fall out of love.” and that embodies our sentiment exactly especially when it comes to the wedding of Lisa + Kelly. It’s never lost on us how incredibly lucky we are to able to experience and share love stories like that of these two. It’s a wonderful honor and when you have Floriography- Luxe Floristry and Amy Gallegos with For The Love Events behind the floral, design and coordination helm- it’s truly like hitting a wedding jackpot. These professionals have much of their own history weaved into Los Poblanos. They know the space, the history, the land and all of its quirks and highlights like the back of their hardworking- chicly manicured hands. They know which florals will perfectly accent the ambiance, they know the precise patterns to bring out the radiance of the historical heirlooms- and it shows. Hand lettered terra-cotta place cards, vintage depressed glass goblets, linen napkins and florals that will give you goosebumps- let’s just say these ladies styled this wedding to perfection.

If you love weddings layered with florals, a delicate palette, a feeling of warmth that pours from every image where the sun is shining, the smiles and love are overflowing and the details are unfussy and sophisticated then you might want to stay a while…

Fair warning, their love radiates, glows and shines through each capture. Their ceremony will make your heart swell and their smiles will light you up. The fete that Lisa and Kelly dreamed up, with this famously beautiful backdrop, will have you believing in the full majesty of love- we can promise you that!

Nikki and Ethan, Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town

It’s #WeddingWednesday and we are so ready to celebrate by highlighting a very special couple that have touched our hearts immensely! Typically we like to start off our blog posts by stating our thoughts about the special couple that we have had the pleasure of working with and their union but alas we have stumbled upon the most beautifully written excerpt that perfectly encapsulates their love story and who are we to re-imagine such a masterpiece?! Get comfy, give it a read and then enjoy some of the most magical wedding day photos ever. You can literally feel the warmth radiating from these images! We feel so lucky to have been there to capture it all and we can’t even begin to comprehend the journey that these two are in for. We will be there cheering them on all the way…

We began our story after meeting online in January 2016 and hilarity immediately ensued. Our first date was at an ice cream shop in Brooklyn. Nikki, just recently moving to Brooklyn to escape the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, thought there was only one Ample Hill Creamery location and ended up at the wrong one. After realizing the snafu (via a series of very confused text messages), we successfully met and Ethan remembers vividly how fast his heart was racing when a gorgeous, stylish Nikki walked through the door! From that moment we have not been able to get enough of each other, going on 5 more dates in the next two weeks. Nikki knew this would be something special after our spontaneous third date where we enjoyed brunch and a long walk around Dumbo, Brooklyn which fittingly saw us get caught in the rain. While Nikki remembers being sopping wet with her makeup running and still feeling like the most beautiful girl to Ethan (which is still how he makes her feel today), Ethan remembers not having any clue that her makeup was running because he was too busy smiling like an idiot at her while hoping that their walk would never end.

What we love most about each other is our ability to openly and honestly communicate; because of that, we work well as a team, deeply respect each other and have come to learn that when the going gets tough we can unflinchingly rely on one another. We have an unshakeable deep and loving bond and are thrilled to unite together for life.

Our adventures have taken us all over the globe, through leaking roofs and career pitfalls, into two apartments, and (barely) through two trips to Ikea. We’ve been to Paris, Spain, Nice, Cannes, Cancun, Copenhagen, Costa Rica, Reno, San Francisco, and so many more places – but to this day we talk about how unbelievably lucky we were to both be in Brooklyn in January 2016…
